The central element is an hourglass, symbolizing the passage of time, but instead of sand, it includes a tree in different stages of growth. The upper half of the hourglass shows an inverted, decaying tree with exposed roots, symbolizing depletion, destruction, or the fading past. As time flows downward, the tree turns into a lush, prosperous one at the bottom, symbolizing restoration, hope, and the power of nature to regenerate. The hourglass is confirmed by two large trees with intertwining roots, signifying the interconnect of life, nature, and time. This could explain the smooth balance between devastation and revival, how time corrodes but also nurtures. On the other hand, the hourglass works as a divine technique of balance, transcribing the natural order. The withered tree at the top indicates the drop and the passage of time. The flowered tree at the bottom symbolizes revival, increase, and divine renewal. This interplay of passing and renewal mirrors the natural and mental circles present in many divine and mythological traditions. Environmental sensibility highlights the effect of time on nature and the urgent need for maintenance. The circle of life, showing the inevitability of decay and renewal. In this drawing, I have used the browns, greens, and soft purples to evoke a sense of both decay and revival, reinforcing the organic emotion of the artwork. The technique that I used was the blending of light and shadow to create a mystical atmosphere, reinforcing the idea of divine interference shaping the world. In conclusion, this artwork embodies the timeless interplay between decay and renewal, time and immortality, divine will, and natural law. Through earthy colors and symbolic metaphor, the work evokes a deep sense of universal balance, prompting the viewer to meditate on the forces that shape presence. This painting was created as part of the AIU Divine Creation competition 2025 by Jumana Ali, who is majoring in Interior Design.
